MARY Frances OWEN RIVES

I know from the probate records of Nancy Owen in El Dorado (Union Cty)
Ark in 1894 that she had a daughter married to a Reeves/Rives who lived in
Johnson Cty, Texas in or near Cleburne. That county is immediately
south of Ft Worth, Texas.

I have heard in Oct 2002 from Claud Rives in Jal, New Mexico who said that
Mary Frances Owen Rives was his great-great grandmother. (pumppro1@aol.com).
(As of June, 2007, it appears that his e-mail address is no longer valid)
Claud said that Mary is buried in the George's Creek Cemetary just to the
west of Johnson County and actually in Somervell County, Texas. The cemetery
appears to be on Hwy 308 just north of US 67.

Claud stated that Mary had married William Josiah Rives in Alabama and that
they had moved to Texas right after the Civil War, possibly as soon as 1866,
settling in Somervell County, Texas. He reported the following children of
them.

WILLIAM JOSIAH RIVES MARY FRANCES OWEN
-------------------- ------------------
B 10-20-1841 B 01-10-1845
M
D 10-31-1904 (AGE 63) A350 D 03-22-1901 AGE 56 A347

(Above birth and death data from tombstones.
The tombstone for Wm shows his name as William Joseph Rives)
(Claud said that the tombstone for Mary shows "Rives Mary
Francis (Adams)" but I have not yet been able to determine
the relevance of "Adams". I visited the cemetery in June, 2007
and there was nothing on the tombstone relating to Adams. Thus,
Claud must have gotten that info from some other source.)

Children James Robert (moved to Mills Cty and
					had 11 children)
Roxie Leona (note-Mary had a sis named Roxie)
				Gurta Ida
				Jacob Henry
				Martha Jane
				Burrell (Burl) Jackson
				Samuel Joseph b 2-11-1885 d 08- -1964, age 79
buried at Georges Creek Cemetery A347
					next to his parents
				Nancie Julie
				Mary (Molly) Frances Rives
					b 3-08-1870 d 1-28-1886 age 16
buried at Georges Creek Cemetery A348

The reference of A347, etc, above was obtained from the cemetery listing
on the internet for the cemetery. However, in my visit in June, 2007, a
maintenance worker said that the reference did not mean anything to him.
He said there is a section A but it is too small to go as high as 347.

Claud at PmumPro1@aol.com said that he is the grandchild of Burl Jackson
Rives and he gets his information based on that relationship.

Claud provided me with a extract of the 1880 census, FHL film 1255327
page 365B showing the following:

Name Occupa	Rel	Sex	Marial	Race	AGe	Birth Place

Wm J Rives	Farmer	self	M	M	W	40	GA
Mary Rives	Kept hs	Wife	F	M	W	36	Ga
Robert Wks Farm Son	M	S	W 14	Al
Martha At Home	Daug	F	S	W	13	Al
Nancy At Home	Daug	F	S	W	11	Ms
Mary Daug	F	S	W	9	Tx
Sarah Daug	F	S	W	7	Tx
Thomas Son	M	S	W	5	Tx
Burl J Son	M	S	W	3	Tx
Leola Daug	F	S	W	2	Tx
Jake Son	M	S	W	3mo	Tx

A couple of the names of the census does not jive with the list provided
by Claud but it is close enough to confirm that it is the same family with
nicknames or short names used by Claud.

In the 1860 census of Thomas Owen, MF Owen is shown as a 16 year old
daughter still living at home with Thomas and Nancy.

It appears from the births of their children, that the H & W must have
married in Al prior to 1866 to fit Robert's birth there.

It appears that with Martha born in Al and at age 13 in 1880, they were still
in Al in 1867 but must have moved to Ms by 1869 for Nancy to have been born
there and to be age 11. It appears they must have moved on to Tx by 1871
for Mary to have been born in Tx. Note that Thomas and Nancy were still in
Al for the 1870 census and appear to have moved to Ark by about 1872.

William Josiah Rives served in the Confederate Army in Co. 1, Clinch's 4th
Ga Cavalry and in Johnson's 11th Ga Cav.

Claud at PumpPro1@aol.com said that their data shows up in the census for
Talledega Cty, Ga for 1870 and in possible 1850 or 1860. They show up
in the 1880 census for Johnson County, Tx. --- see details below for 1880.

I have also corresponded with Bob and Jimmye Hay at hayranch@78063.com.
However, as of June, 2007, it appears that e-mail may not be valid.

Jimmye stated that she is the GG Granddaughter of Wm J and Mary Frances Owen
Rives and that her G-GM was Sara Elizabeth Rives Underwood but I am not
sure of who her parents were. born 2-11-1872 in Texas, died 7-26-1948
in Ft Worth and buried at Georges Creek Cemetery.

The remaining is material provided by Jimmye per e-mail of 4/26/2005:

A bit of history/scandal: My grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Underwood, was
one of Sara Elizabeth's oldest sons and was
married the first time to his first cousin, a girly named Martha Ann Rives.
They were married about 1900, no children were born. This caused quite a
flap on both sides of the family because of being first cousins. She had
some surgery, got blood poinsoing and died. She is buried at George's Creek
Cemetery also - b 9-04-1891, d. 05-21-1912. My grandfather later married my
grandmother, Ethel Norris Underwood. Anyway, I do not know which Rives was
her father.

Sara Elizabeth Rives married Richard Lee Undersood, and their children are
as follows:

	John W Underwood
	Benjamin Franklin Underwood
	Clyde B Underwood
	Roy E Underwood
	Essie Mae Underwood
	Nickles Herman Underwood
	Nannie Pearl Underwood
	Ruth M Underwood
   * Next to my g-granmother's grave are the graves of 3 infants/young
children, also. They are as fol-lows:
	Dickie Lee Underwood b 10-08-1894 d 3-24-1895
	Richard Dewie Underwood b 1-09-1898 d 4-3-1899
	N.M. Underwood b-d 3-22-1900

All of the family of Sara Elizabeth Rives lived in and about Ft Worth, Tx
in later years, which was my (Jimmye Hays) hometown. Sara Elizabeth was
a very spunky, lady with sanpping eyes. As a young child I visited her home,
and knew better than to misbehave any - she would always offer my sister and
I her "homemade hominy", which was good. She and my g-grandfather Underwood
separated, she lived by herself in her little wood frame house in Ft Worth.
She got very upset that the City of Ft Worth condemned her outhouse and
outside water well in later times. She did not want inside conveniences
at all. She also would hadnsew pockets on the isnide of her dresses to
carry her money, in order that it cold not be stolen.

(reminder that last above section re: Underwood descendants was provided
by Jimmye Hay)
